What’s a piece of technology you’re convinced will exist in 20 years?
This is a great question to answer with a futuristic short story. I, though, lack the skills to create a compelling cyberpunk, sci-fi, dystopian story. If capable, one piece of technology I would definitely include is some type of communication device.
The importance of being able to communicate is apparent as far back as human existence whether you are Creationists or Darwinist or other religious (including science in the definition) belief. Scratches into clay, cave carvings, Hieroglyphics, logographs, quill and ink, the printing press, telegraph, telephone, radio, television, computers, cellphones represent our obsession and strong spiritual need to communicate with one another and generations to come.
I cannot imagine what those devices will look like. Will we be better equipped spiritually to utilize them for positive sharing with a mutual goal to find harmony? I cannot say. Based on my years of experience and observation, although the pendulum swings, it swings forward toward understanding less each time and backwards deeper into opinion as proof.
No matter how progressive or regressive or conservative society is in twenty years, the one technology that will still be around is some form or forms of telecommunication.
