Oppress : No Peace

What bothers you and why?

Quick answer: oppression.

I define oppression as a state of being under someone or something else’s power or control. Parents can be oppressive. Spouses can be oppressive. Religious leaders can be oppressors.

I believe the oppressed don’t know. Their oppressor guilts them or shames them into submission. Often, the oppressed suppress their feelings because they want to be loyal to the oppressor. The oppressed never gets comfortable in their situation, but to stand up to the oppressor could mean great loss.

The oppressor is often quick to anger. The heavy weight of always being in control of every situation 24/7 is exhausting as well as exhilarating. Everyone is counting on the oppressor to get it right.

Power hungry madness is also a very lonely feeling. Lack of trust in others and themselves to be able to adequately control every challenge to the status quo makes them feel alone.

Oppression has no permanent peace for anyone oppressed or oppressor. That’s why it bothers me so much.

I have the rich life full of a sinner wounded by misunderstanding and punishment but blessed by mercy and forgiveness.
