How do you balance work and home life?
I am retired now, but I still do a lot of writing (mostly not-for-profit). Looking back, I did a poor job of balancing work and home. Observing my past, the older I got, the worse I became.
I have the privilege currently of being able to look back. I recommend people to not wait too long to do a self-assessment. It would be my first advice in determining how well you’re balancing work and home life. Part of your self-assessment should include asking one or two of your colleagues at home and at work.
My personal evaluation reveals that I felt more urgency of my role at work than I did my part at home. If I had been more cognizant of the importance of my role as husband and father as I was of whatever my contribution at work, my family would have benefited more.
This will be my second piece of advice. Don’t take for granted either of your positions. You are a vital part of both worlds. But be careful to balance your importance to the “team” with much appreciation for whatever others impart to you.
Finally, I have to remind myself often of this. Overindulgence of past failures, leads to repeating them now. Do your self-assessment, make whatever adjustments you can, and value the moment. That’s who you were. This is who you are and it will go a long way to becoming the best you can be.
““So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
