WHAT IS YOUR RELIGION?
I am a Christian and of course my core beliefs influence my writing and my perspective on life. I do not try to “force” my core beliefs on others. I will share my perspectives and enjoy an exchange of ideas. My experience teaches me that God is working on me, not so that I can change, or change anyone else, but so that I can relate better with others and deal better with what my future may bring.

WHAT IS YOUR POLITICAL AFFILIATION?
I do not affiliate with either political party or with any organized political group like the Religious Right, Right for Life, NRA, etc. I taught school and I worked in social services, so I pay close attention to candidates whose platforms include positive changes to improve or enhance education and educational opportunities and/or social reforms and social justice.

WRITING
WHY DID YOU BECOME A WRITER?
Since the fourth grade, I wanted to write a novel and after graduating from the University of Southern Indiana, my plan was to teach English and Composition during the school year and write and pursue publishing during the summer months. That plan never happened. Life happened.
Skipping all life stuff, I jump to two years before my retirement, I started this blog. But it wasn’t enough, so I challenged myself to achieve that lifelong dream of publishing a novel which I did with A River Bend. Having done that, I realized this is what I truly love to do – write. I think the fourth grade me knew more about his spirit than the grown up me ever did. I am not the best writer for everyone, but the best me is a writer.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR STORY IDEAS?
Story ideas come from several places. I like to read. I like movies and television. Many ideas come from those sources. Reading a story or watching a show, I think of ways I would treat that storyline or address that issue in a story. Honestly, many of these story ideas have been in my thoughts for DECADES.
CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME WRITING TIPS?
I would only be able to provide general tips here. But might be able to be more specific one-on-one through email – douglasknight85@gmail.com or Facebook, Doug Knight Author Page. Warning: I still have a lot to learn myself.
One tip here: Writing becomes better with more writing. WRITE
Second tip: Writers who read learn from those writers. READ
Third tip: Join or start a relationship with other writers and share your ideas. SHARE
Fourth tip: Everyone has a story. When your out and about talk with people – people you know and people you don’t know, especially people with a different perspective on issues. Good story ideas are there and yours will remain fresh and up-to-date. LISTEN AND OBSERVE
