His Honorable Mike Johnson perceived the “No Kings” protest for October 18, 2025, as a Hate America Rally. President Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt described it similarly. In their assessments, they described the participants as leftist, Marxist, pro-Hamas terrorists, violent criminals, illegal aliens, and socialists.
They further claimed that this was lead by Democratic leaders stating that the rally would be made up of constituents of the Democratic Party. Mike Johnson states this is the Democratic Party.
I not only attended the rally, but as a participant I was there to take a stand for democracy, balance of power, law and order for all persons that our laws defend and indict. I am not a violent criminal, socialist, terrorist, illegal alien, or Democrat. The organizers of our “No Kings” Rally in Evansville, Indiana were citizens of the greater Evansville Metropolitan area.
All of my 5,000 or so fellow protesters were citizens of Evansville and nearby communities. I talked with many of them. There was one or two I spoke with who were pro-Palestinian, many more pro-Israeli, but none who were pro-Hamas.
There were a few who were democratic socialists and far left-wing advocates, but all oppose pure Marxist and Communist socialism.
Among us were gays and lesbians and transgenders, but no terrorists. There were Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, but no terrorist activity from them. There were several Mexicans or Latinos, but I did not ask them to show me their passports, birth certificates, or green cards.
What I am trying to say is that Mike Johnson and Karoline Leavitt misrepresented the promotion, the premise, and the personality of the rally. The question is why they would do so?
It is hard for me to believe that such intelligent people and politically aware individuals would be so wrong about the rally. It is easy to speculate based on their talents and knowledge that they knew they were presenting a false narrative.
Surely they realize that a number of people who have placed their trust in them would believe them. Surely they understand that this type of rhetoric stimulates division, not unity.
