What topics do you like to discuss?
I enjoy discussing things I have considered, researched, questioned, tested and of which I’ve gained some understanding especially through trial and error. The one thing that benefits from aggressive study and continuous meditation tempered by high expectations is the Bible.
I like to discuss Biblical passages with believers and nonbelievers including Bible scholars and Bible deniers. Bible scholars provide information that I may not know but am eager to know. Bible deniers offer a fresh perspective that I need to help dig deeper.
Historians also deepen my understanding and interpretation of scripture with their expertise about cultures, language, literary conventions at the time of the writing which help to accurately interpret the meaning of a book of the Bible.
Discussing the Bible changes my mind about or confirms prior beliefs. I don’t believe you can really know yourself and definitely cannot truly know God by just attending church for an hour once a week. I think one cheats themselves out of a richer life by just reading the Bible and not applying it to practical daily living.
Other’s perspective discussed allows me to hear thoughts I may never have thought on my own while also challenging me to assess the value of my own conclusions.
