Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
“I’m a realist. I’m a romantic. I am indecisive and that’s about it” (The Cribs). https://genius.com/The-cribs-im-a-realist-lyrics
I’m not promoting The Cribs or that song. I’m not claiming to even know much about the song or the band. I’m using the lyrics to introduce my answer to this prompt. It is an often used question in interviews, even job interviews which doesn’t always get a perfectly honest response. I’m going to try to be a bit more honest, thus the weird, maybe inappropriate introduction.
As a septuagenarian, there is a good chance only my remains will be here upon this planet or any other planet for that matter. Therefore, we will keep this part of the answer fairly short.
Whether I remain bodily or not, I hope some of what I write remains. It tickles my ego to imagine thousands or more persons ten years from now are, have been, and will continue to be moved by something or some things I’ve written. Realistically, well, that’s a shorter sentence.
I do hope I maintain enough faculties to still be writing as well as breathing, walking, talking, etc. etc. etc. My father passed at age 97. My mother’s last breath was at age 94. So, there is real hope I’ll still be alive in ten years.
My romantic side believes I will be writing, have faithful readers anxiously awaiting my insightful words. I will be wiser, more influential, and an effective writer of essays, books, stories, and even prompts. I might even have added breath-taking poetry to my repertoire. Let’s add some speaking engagements, too.
