What are 5 everyday things that bring you happiness?
- My wife
- My pets
- Writing
- Early Morning Connection
- Giving Back
I list Melissa first because I can just turn over at night and watch her sleep and be filled with so much warmth and comfort confident in her unconditional love for me.
Paisley, Lance, and Loki are fun to watch. The simple things bring them pleasure. I’m envious of the excitement their curiosity invites. I try to emulate it even for things I’ve seen or experienced beforehand.
I’m trying to make it a habit to write something on my blog everyday. It gives me pleasure and it provides a great start on the day when I can accomplish it in the morning. It keeps my brain from atrophy as well.
Every morning, once she awakes, Missy and I share our thoughts and feelings. Then we read and discuss a passage of the Bible, apply it practically to our past, present, and future. Then, individually we share thoughts and feelings with God. This anchors us and prepares us for whatever the day may bring.
The rest of the day, I find giving back brings contentment much more than consuming or complaining. I do whatever will help Missy. I care for those precious pets, feed the wild birds or a stray cat. I may volunteer in the community or help family or friends. I post on my blog or social media hoping it might help a reader.
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”

I have the rich life full of a sinner wounded by misunderstanding and punishment but blessed by mercy and forgiveness.
