How would you improve your community?
If I had the ability to improve my community, I would like to see a change of heart. Most people I know believe their lives would be better if there were more things to do, more money in their pocket, or if everyone thought like they do.
I wish more of my community would be more open to debate, to learning, to thinking outside of traditions and norms and their own desires. I would like to see a spiritual change where there was a stronger sense of others and their desires.

I agree for the most part, I’d just like to add the skill of active listening. Most people listen only to respond. Learning is hard that way. If we take time to hear before we speak the debate might be more effective.

Thanks for commenting. Yes, I totally agree. That is paramount to real debate – a conversation of two or more who state the basis for their conclusion with the goal of understanding and/or finding the common ground. It is not conversation if only one or neither are listening to the other. Listening is a serious problem. In many arguments, the poor listener doesn’t even hear their own basis for conclusions very well.
