Seeking Fullness of Life

“Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.” Psalm 117: 1 and 2a

Purpose: Worship the Lord

Meaning: Because the Lord’s love is great and his faithfulness is forever

Is this too simple? Is it stupid of me to break these verses down this way? Maybe I should hope that it’s not this simple. If it is, then I have spent a whole lot of time pursuing God’s purpose in my life that could have spent fulfilling God’s purpose in my life.

I remember in my teens asking an evangelist missionary, “How can I know God’s will in my life?” I don’t remember what all he said in explanation and I don’t recall exactly his words. His answer was as simple as this, though, “Seek it.” I totally misinterpreted his simple advice. I sought it by my own means, trying to please God by being good, yet lacking the faith and courage to trust him completely.

In  the meantime, God kept drawing me to Himself. Pleading with me through songs, sermons, Bible reading, circumstances – good and difficult. I became more blind, more confused, often taking the easy road rather than the road less traveled.

The decisions I made and the work I did to be more like Christ involved the superficial and physical. The lessons I learned from life’s challenges changed me very little spiritually. What God  wanted from me was to love and trust him more.

“For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom” Luke 12: 30-32 New International Version.

I often referenced this verse to encourage myself to seek how I might capture the kingdom of God. I totally missed the most important part of this verse. Seek God’s kingdom and He, not me, will see that whatever I need I’ll have. Also, I cannot do enough to earn the kingdom, but I don’t have to earn it. He is pleased to give me the kingdom.

Throughout all my life, including now, God is pleased to give me his kingdom. I could have been a better father, son, husband, friend and most of all servant of God. I could have sensed the fullness and richness of my life and enjoyed it and those around me more. God is trying to give me that, even now.  All I needed to do is let him give it and accept it.

You can be the very best that you can be. Enjoy your life more. First believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as the only way to God and a full, rich life. Second, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as the only way to God and a full, rich life and completely trust that whatever life throws at you, God can and will help you overcome it and through it make you richer for it.
